Cubase 5 - New Features

7. VST Expression – An ultra-intuitive way of working with multiple instrument articulations from sample libraries, making a link between score symbols and sound

Recording and editing VST instruments with articulations - such as orchestra libraries - has just become significantly easier and more intuitive, thanks to VST Expression. VST Expression allows composers to record and edit instruments with multiple articulations on single MIDI or instrument tracks while still maintaining full control over articulations and expression. Articulations and playback directions are separated from note events for editing and correctly played back with the appropriate sounds - even when the sound playback device has changed. VST Expression in Cubase 5 is the foundation for a new VST3 articulation standard and compatible with any current VST or stand-alone orchestra library - including Steinberg HALion Symphonic Orchestra.

  • Expression Map Editor provides mapping and remapping of articulation controllers (such as key switches, controller changes or MIDI channel remapping). Using Expression Maps, projects can be ported for playback with a different sound device or library.
  • New Articulation Lane in Key and Drum Editors for intuitive and fast editing
  • New VST Expression panel in track inspector
  • Recording articulation changes (e.g. key switches) automatically adds
    correct symbols in score editor
  • Adding articulation symbols in score editor results in correct instrument playback
